The days may be getting shorter and the nights cooler but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy your beautiful garden in the autumn season. In fact, there are plenty of ways to make the most of your outdoor space in the next few months.
Aside from our routine gardening jobs, there are many things you can do in the garden to keep enjoying it even when the colder nights come around.
Let’s take a look!
Keep the barbecue burning
Just because the weather is changing doesn’t mean your outdoor kitchen needs to go into hibernation. If you have a beautiful patio area to entertain guests, you can continue to do so on cooler nights with the help of outdoor heaters, blankets and cushions.
If you are worried about your guests becoming cold, consider adding a fire pit to your garden patio or perhaps some outdoor heaters to help them feel cosy and comfortable. Blankets and cushions are not only a great way to accessorise, they are also practical for chillier evenings.
Plus, when you’re cooking up some delicious autumnal recipes the barbecue will do a fantastic job of keeping the area warm and inviting.

Make room for wildlife
A wildlife friendly garden can look extremely beautiful and you won’t even realise for the most part that you are sharing your outdoor space with many other species.
Start by creating a wildlife friendly water feature in your garden. Our selection of rockery products are perfect for creating a stunning feature and our blog post will talk you through how to do it even if you aren’t an expert landscape gardener.
A log pile will also give small creatures a safe place to inhabit over enter. If you are worried about this spoiling the aesthetic of your garden, place it in an undisturbed corner of your outdoor space so it’s out of sight.
You could also create a bird feeding station and keep it well stocked with nuts, seeds, fat balls and fresh water.
Keep on top of gardening jobs
As the seasons change, your garden will require extra care and maintenance to ensure it looks immaculate leading into spring and summer of the following year.
Here are some ways to maintain your garden this autumn -
- Feed the lawn and carry out any renovations such as scarifying, aeration and overseeding
- Trim hedges
- Use a leaf blower to clear up autumn leaves as they fall
- Plant spring flowering bulbs for a beautiful display in a few months’ time
- Brush your artificial grass to perk up the pile and help prevent moss and weeds growing over the winter period
- Sweep patios and pathways
