Burlington Aggregates
Based at Barrow In Furness, Cumbria, Burlington Aggregates are experts in the extraction and processing of natural slate, limestone and sand aggregates from five Lake District quarries.
We have created Stone & Surfaces Direct to provide a means for our partners, who are the product manufacturers and often the quarry source, to offer their products direct to you.
We believe that our customers should have confidence in the knowledge that they know the origins of the material used in their home and where the products are manufactured.
The product quality is not compromised by third party pressure to reduce prices, and we ensure attention to the key performance criteria necessary for the products intended application.
The sales price of our products are competitive as they are distributed direct from the factory source, and not via a third party wholesaler.
As the products we offer are distributed from the source there is a significant reduction in the number of movements often associated with the normal supply chain, which inturn reduces the number of vehicles on our roads.
Our customer service team is committed to helping our customers choose the right material for their project, and ensuring it is delivered direct from the quarry or factory to the chosen delivery destination. We have over 30 years’ of experience working in the manufacture and extraction of the natural stone and man made building materials, many which are shown in our product portfolio. We work closely with all supply partners to ensure they embrace the best practises in the extraction and manufacture of the products we offer to our customers.Nick Williams, Director of Stone & Surfaces Direct
We work closely with the partner companies offering products to you, auditing the supply chain, and where necessary working with them to improve efficiencies and quality. We ensure they use the best raw material in the manufacturing process and make products that can be offered directly from the factory to your door.
We believe it is important to work with Trade Associations such the Stone Federation GB to understand best practises and industry standards and help our customers to understand where the raw material for the products installed in your home come from, and where they are made.
Stone & Surfaces Direct are members of The Stone Federation GB, who publish guidance documents for the use of natural stone in the home, and stipulate “consumers should understand the products petrological description, traditional name, quarry location and country of origin”.
Many of the imported natural stone products offered to the UK market are from unregulated quarries and factories that do not comply with European manufacturing standards for health and safety and ethical sourcing criteria. Therefore, confidence can be taken from knowing that the products we offer are from a small selection of complementary partners that both quarry and manufacture the products that we offer.
It should be noted that in July 2013 it became a legally mandated obligation for natural stone products used in construction to be covered by the harmonised European standard, which means the products must have a Declaration of Performance (DoP) and be CE Marked.
All the products offered by Stone & Surfaces Direct are therefore CE marked.
This means all our natural stone paving flags comply with BSEN1341:2012, and for modular natural stone tiles for interiors to BS EN 12057:2015.
These standards outline the key criteria for product dimensions, visual appearance, and the necessary technical requirements for products [such as for frost resistance in exterior natural stone products].
Natural stone is a unique tried and tested material that has been used as a building material for hundreds of years, and its beauty can be appreciated in many of our own homes across the UK, as well as some of the world’s most iconic buildings. Choosing the correct natural material for your home, with the desired finish, colour and technical characteristics for its chosen application is important, and we aim to help you in this journey.
Our customers can be sure that in the unlikely event there is an issue with the products we offer, there is traceability through to the source to understand the scope and nature of any issue and ensure the product is replaced or fixed with the minimum of disruption.
We hope that the information we provide will help you in choosing the products that will work best for you and will be a worthwhile investment for your home whether you are creating a new garden space or refurbishing a room in your home.
